FROM THE ARCHIVES: JOHN WOODEN VISITS SMCC
Legendary UCLA Basketball coach made a surprise visit to St. Mary Central Catholic High School in the winter of 1976. Many alumni might remember the night of the winter sports banquet that year when the boys basketball team somehow arranged for the “Wizard of Westwood” to make an appearance in the cafeteria.
The team found out that Wooden would be in Lorain that same evening and made arrangements for him to stop in and surprise their head coach Norm Paeth. Wooden and his wife, Nell both took the time to sign autographs and talk with the Panther faithful before leaving for the speaking engagement in Lorain.
Coach Wooden recently passed away at the age of 99 on June 4, 2010. (open the pdf below for the April 12, Sandusky Register article)
3rd ANNUAL ALUMNI CRUISE FOR TUITION ASSISTANCE
The 3rd Annual Alumni Cruise will be departing on Sunday, August 15 aboard the Goodtime II. The event has become an annual endeavor to help raise tuition assistance money for students at Sandusky Central Catholic School.
The owner of the Goodtime, Joe Lamb is an SMCC graduate and loves to help out whenever he can. Adding to the festivities this year, the classes of 1970 and 1960 will be hosting their class reunions that same weekend and should be aboard the cruise in full force. Dave Mehling and Gary Erney are spearheading the organizational efforts this year for what has been a hugely successful and rewarding experience for all involved.
Tickets are 12$ each and are available by contacting Dave at 419-625-4768 or Gary at 419-626-5389. Space is limited and tickets sell quickly. Sponsors or those wishing to make donations to help cover the costs of this project may also contact Dave or Gary or call Chad Kresser at the SCCS Development Office at 419-627-9431.
SUMMER READING PROGRAM UNDERWAY
In an effort to keep kids learning and mentally active over the summer the Sandusky Central Catholic School English and Language Arts programs have instituted their Summer Reading Program.
Students in grades 7 through 12 have some required reading for the summer. For more details and a complete list of the reading assignments you can click here or see our homepage "Summer Reading Program" banner.

Sadly, (or joyfully, depending on your point of view) it won't be long before it's time to go school shopping and get ready for the new school year. To help parents plan ahead and prepare their kids properly teachers at Sandusky Central Catholic School have completed their supply lists.
